Handling Concepts “Assistmate” is a versatile overhead telescopic mast that offers you a materials handling solution that enables you to increase production efficiencies safely.
The Background
Handling Concepts was approached by a UK Manufacturer of power transmission components to design, manufacture and install a handling solution that could manipulate a 1.1T tool and move it between various press tooling stations. The customer required a solution to enable them to expand its operational effectiveness and ramp up production speed. The customer was keen to invest in a mechanical solution that would help to speed up the process with precision and safety.
The Problem
The 1.1T tooling was a large technical challenge, because the device had to be strong enough to handle the load. It was important that the end effector would cope with the weight and enable the operator to safely move the product between the stages of the production process. A further challenge was the need to keep a safe distance between the operator and the application in order to minimise risk.
Handling Concepts’ Material Handling Solution
Handling Concepts provided the Assistmate, an overhead telescopic mast that included powered travel and lift for picking up the heavy tooling and moving it between various press tooling stations. A further feature of the device is the bespoke end gripper which was designed and tailored to handle the customer’s specific product. In this photograph, you will see that it is spaced away from the main body of the machine to give access to the presses whilst keeping the operator safely out of harm’s way.
The outcome is that workers can manoeuvre objects that are physically too heavy for a person to handle around the workplace. The Assistmate Overhead Telescopic Mast enables workers to lift and move the product safely and efficiently. As a result, the company is meeting its objectives and has increased production capability.
