Case study: Travelling Jib Crane

The Problem
How to lift heavy end-caps to the end of each hose during test – and over a wide area – without clashing with pre-existing overhead cranes.

The Solution
A radial jib crane was mounted on a bespoke travelling carriage and rail system which was mounted to the wall of the building. The jib crane can cover an area 5m x 25m and simply folds away when the overhead cranes are in use.

The Outcome
The solution designed has solved the problem as required. The large overhead cranes deliver a hose to the test cell and then the travelling radial jib is deployed to fit the end-caps. The caps are fitted quickly and meanwhile the main overhead crane can be in use elsewhere in the building.
